Billy Kimmel #47

In Memory of The Mechanicsburg Hot Shoe

3rd Annual Billy Kimmel Memorial Golf Tournament

Announcement:  3rd Annual Billy Kimmel Memorial Golf Tournament

January 17, 2010

The date is set for the 3rd Annual Billy Kimmel Memorial Golf Tournament.  Unlike the previous 2 outings, which were played on Thursdays, this year’s event will be held on Sunday, May 23rd, 2010 with a shotgun start at a time yet to be determined.  Entry fees will remain the same for this year - $65/golfer, $260/team.  However, for those teams or golfers registering after May 3rd, we will assess a $10 late fee/golfer.  The final cut-off date for all registration is May 14th, 2010.  Check-in will begin an hour and a half prior to the tournament’s start time. Each team will receive a deli-style lunch during the outing courtesy of Al’s Pizza & Subs, in Dillsburg and Middleswarth’s Potato Chips, as well as a hot dinner at the finish of the tournament.  Also, there will be a number of door prizes that each participant is eligible to win, including golf equipment, golf apparel, race apparel, race memorabilia, etc.  During the event there are several traditional scramble format contests where the golfers can win additional prizes.

Other than the new late fee and change of day & time, there are relatively few changes to the overall design of the event.  As always, Silver Spring Golf Course will play host to the outing.  The management team at SSGC is incredibly cordial and easy to work with leading up to, during, and after the event.  They go out of their way to welcome the local racing community, so this outing will remain at SSGC as long as we are able to continue such a good business relationship.

The first 2 tournaments have averaged 120 golfers and 30 plus sponsors.  Combined, they have netted over $18,000 for the Billy Kimmel Memorial Fund.  We anticipate many of the same golfers and fully expect to reach the maximum field of 144 golfers.  Registrations will be taken on a first come-first serve basis, so don’t delay.  Gold Sponsors will receive a complimentary team registration, included with the cost of the sponsorship.  Registration forms and sponsorship forms can be printed from www.nscbba.org or www.billkimmel.com.  Please direct questions to Ross Fronk at tournament@nscbba.org or call 717-487-9047 during traditional business hours.  RAIN OR SHINE!!!

Billy Kimmel Memorial Golf Tournament History

Billy Kimmel Memorial Golf Tournament

The Billy Kimmel Memorial Golf Tournament was created in the memory of sprint car driver, William Kimmel, whose life was taken in an unfortunate racing accident, in September, 2007.  Affectionately known as Billy, to most, the Mechanicsburg native was famous for his “run what ya brung,” attitude.  In essence, Billy scratched and clawed each week, just to put a car on the track.  While many fans and drivers share the same passion for the sport, very few are actually fueled by the desire to compete, like Billy.  Friends and family all have their own special stories and anecdotes with regards to his behind the scenes efforts to race each week.  Some are humorous, some are inspirational, but all of serve to carry on his memory.  The golf tournament is a nice venue where friends, family, and fans can get together in a large group to share these stories.  At the same time, the event raises money for the Billy Kimmel Memorial Fund, established on his behalf.  The first two tournaments produced over $18,000 and allowed the Memorial Fund to issue scholarships, as an advocate of higher education.
